Honeywell has delivered 218 stronger and lighter next generation combat helmets containing advanced Honeywell Spectra Shield® and Gold Shield® ballistic materials to the U.S. Army.  They are designed to be 16 to 24% lighter than the helmets currently worn by American soldiers and to provide increased ballistic and non-ballistic performance against handgun rounds and fragments from improvised explosive devices.  The helmets will be evaluated by the Army to help set new helmet performance requirements. 

“Reducing the weight of body armor and head protection is a primary goal of the U.S. Army,” said Dr. James Zheng, Chief Scientist, Project Manager – Soldier Protection and Individual Equipment, Program Executive Office – Soldier, U.S. Army. “Through the testing of these new helmets, we will be able to accelerate the development of future lightweight helmet systems.”

Honeywell has announced an upgrade to its HTF7000 turbofan engine that will simultaneously cut emissions and boost thrust without increasing engine size.

SABER2, the new variant of Honeywell’s singular annular combustor for emissions reduction (SABER) currently available for the HTF engine family, will reduce drag and weight through improved aerodynamics and re-engineered fuel nozzles and fuel scheduling systems. These changes will offer improved performance as well as significant reductions in nitrous oxide emissions, going beyond the 25 percent reduction already delivered through Honeywell’s existing SABER system. SABER2 is expected to be commercially available by late 2013.

Honeywell will showcase other aviation products at the European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (EBACE) from May 14-16 in Geneva, Switzerland. Products include: Ovation Select™ Cabin Management System, Primus Elite™ Flight Deck, Gulfstream PlaneView® Flight Deck,  and Dassault EASy II Flight Deck.

The current issue of Fortune Magazine features Honeywell Chairman and CEO Dave Cote, highlighting the remarkable transformation in financial performance, culture and operations the company has experienced during his decade as leader.   

From his childhood through college and into his career, the article describes Cote as an independent thinker who values hard work and focus.  Under Cote, Honeywell’s stock price is up 84% with a total shareowner return of 215%, outperforming almost all names in its industrial peer group and the S&P 500.  He is credited with aligning the Honeywell, Allied Signal and Pittway cultures and introducing disciplines across the business, such as the Honeywell Operating System (HOS), to unite the company and mobilize the work force under common goals.  The article also highlights Cote’s push to transform Honeywell’s process for mergers and acquisitions, acquiring 70 businesses and divesting 40 over a decade, to shift the company’s portfolio to game-changing technologies that drive high margins and rapid growth. 

The article appears in the magazine’s Fortune 500 issue, which is on newsstands now.  The issue also shows Honeywell at number 77 on the Fortune 500 list, up four spots from 2011.

Honeywell’s SmartView Synthetic Vision System, an aircraft cockpit display technology, has been chosen by aircraft manufacturer Pilatus for its PC-12 NG aircraft equipped with the Primus Apex integrated flight deck. The SmartView option is available now on new PC-12 NG production aircraft and also will be retrofittable in the future.

SmartView will provide PC-12 NG pilots with a real-time view of the location of the aircraft relative to surrounding terrain and a compelling 3-D virtual view outside the cockpit that is unencumbered by visual impediments such as fog, bad weather or darkness. SmartView is also a strategic tool, offering guidance cues, terrain shading and other intuitive prompts to aid pilots in critical decision-making — ultimately improving overall safety for PC-12 NG pilots and passengers.

Honeywell ranks #11 on the 21st Annual “Top 50 Employers” in Woman Engineer Magazine, moving up ten spots from last year’s ranking. The readers of Woman Engineer magazine selected the top companies in the country for which they would most like to work or whom they believe would provide a positive working environment for women engineers. This list is the result of an annual reader survey mailed to randomly selected readers of Woman Engineer magazine.

The Honeywell Technology Experience features a flight simulator, an interactive cityscape, and a modern home equipped with smart-home technologies.  Visitors can take the controls of a modern jet and perform a virtual take-off, hold a 3-D turbocharger, watch how an industrial control room manages an emergency, and enter a modern home to see Honeywell controls manage everything from lighting and water systems, to intrusion detection and temperature.

Located in Honeywell's Asia Pacific headquarters at Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park in Shanghai, the new Honeywell Technology Experience underscores the company's commitment to China, its fastest growing market. Honeywell’s total sales revenue in China reached approximately US$1.9 billion in 2011, or a 20% growth over 2010.

Emerald Biofuels LLC has signed an agreement with Honeywell’s UOP to license technology that will produce 85 million gallons of Honeywell Green Diesel™ per year.  Emerald will use UOP/Eni Ecofining™ process technology to convert inedible natural oils and animal fats to the biofuel, which is a drop-in replacement for traditional diesel, and, unlike biodiesel, can be used in any proportion in existing vehicle fuel tanks, storage and pipelines without any changes.

Honeywell Green Diesel offers high energy density, excellent performance at cold or warm temperatures, and features up to an 80 percent lifecycle reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared with diesel from petroleum.

The Ecofining technology from Honeywell’s UOP will also be used by Valero Energy Corp. and Darling International Inc. in a new unit that will convert animal fats and cooking oil to Green Diesel in Valero’s St. Charles refinery near Norco, Louisiana.  The facility is expected to start up by the end of 2012.

Honeywell’s Anne Madden, Vice President, Corporate Development & Global Head of M&A, has been named one of the top females in the finance industry by Treasury & Risk magazine.

With more than 20 years of experience, Anne has led more than 100 acquisitions, divestitures, Joint Ventures, and strategic transactions as a corporate development officer and as an attorney.  Honeywell has completed over 70 acquisitions under her leadership that have resulted in more than $8 billion of incremental revenues from 2002 to 2011.

Anne has been a driving force in the development and execution of some of the company’s largest and most successful acquisitions globally and she has led the divestitures of key non-core assets, enabling the company to better optimize its portfolio and focus on its core businesses.  She led the redevelopment of the company’s M&A processes and program in 2002 and has been instrumental in numerous process improvements within the function, including the development of best practices for acquisition integration, divestiture preparation and execution, and joint venture structuring.

Honeywell has launched the “Sichuan Rebuilt School Scholarship” at the Honeywell United Primary School in the Sichuan Province to help teachers and students improve their skills and broaden their perspectives.  The program provides outstanding teachers and students with the opportunity to visit Shanghai to experience school campus life, visit places of interest, such as the Shanghai Science & Technology Museum, and visit Honeywell facilities in the region and meet Honeywell engineers. 

At the recent launch ceremony, Honeywell’s China President & CEO Stephen Shang announced the first six outstanding teachers and students from the school who will visit Shanghai this summer to participate in the program. “Although nearly four years have passed since the earthquake, Honeywell employees are still concerned about the people here. The support we are providing to help people rebuild their communities will certainly not end when the construction of school buildings has been completed,” said Shang. “This program embodies our innovative approach to support the development of formalized school-based education, and we hope that our commitment can promote home rebuilding and educational development, and provide outstanding teachers and students with better study and personal development opportunities.” 

Honeywell United Primary School was rebuilt by Honeywell in 2009 and is located in Xiushui, An County, Sichuan Province.

Honeywell’s new LYNX Touch 5100 self-contained security and home automation system is easy to use, fast to install and offers a broad breadth of communication options.  It is the first technology of its kind to offer Wi-Fi, as well as an alarm radio that can communicate via 4G network. The LYNX 5100 launch follows the introduction of Honeywell’s Tuxedo Touch, an automation system designed for larger homes, earlier this year.  Tuxedo Touch has a 7", high-resolution graphic touch screen that can integrate a number of comfort, electronics, energy and security devices and it has a built-in web server for remote access.
